Recreate Market and Fashion Show returns in 2016

04 November, 2016

King George Square will transform into a fashion runway with a twist next month, with Council’s Recreate Showcase returning after a popular introduction in 2015.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the Recreate Twilight Market and Paper Fashion Show would be held on Friday 4 November, showcasing an array of sustainable fashion, homewares, gifts and goods.

“We are committed to ensuring Brisbane is a clean, green, sustainable city and the Recreate Twilight Market and Paper Fashion Show promotes the importance of recycling and reusing,” Cr Quirk said.

“Last year’s event attracted around 12,000 people, and this year’s event is expected to be no different, with the twilight market showcasing some of Brisbane’s most creative stall holders and a range of handmade, sustainable wares.

“The much-loved Paper Fashion Show will also return, featuring seven of Brisbane’s most exciting designers who have created couture made from recycled materials, particularly paper and cardboard.”

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the event celebrated National Recycling Week, and promoted the importance of reducing landfill waste.

“Last year Brisbane residents disposed of more than 51,000 tonnes of recyclable items in their general waste bins, approximately 39,000 tonnes of which were paper and cardboard products,” he said.

“While acknowledging those who are finding more creative ways of recycling, the event encourages people to rethink recyclable materials as resources that can be made into new products, rather than simply rubbish.

“By recycling at home, residents can make sure that valuable resources are being recovered instead of being sent to landfill.”

The following designers are taking part in the fashion show:
 Darb Bridal Couture (Brad Webb)
 I make. You wear it (Rachel Burke)
 Alice Nightingale (Alice Vievers)
 Urban Prima (Carly Vidal-Wallace)
 Ruby Olive (Skye Anderton)
 SUZII K (Suzanne Knezovic)
 The Great Beyond (Nick Azar)

Along with a vibrant market and runway show, the event will also feature food trucks, live entertainment and interactive recycling education. The event kicks off from 4pm, Friday 4 November.
