Westside community facilities get a healthy boost

08 September, 2015

A popular sporting facility in Brisbane’s western suburbs is benefiting from new and improved infrastructure, thanks to a Brisbane City Council program aimed at boosting community involvement across the city.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said Council invested $5 million last financial year to repair and improve community facilities throughout the city, to keep local communities thriving.
“As well as supporting active and healthy lifestyles, local community and sports facilities play an important role in creating a sense of community in our local neighbourhoods,” Cr Quirk said.
“Brisbane offers a diverse and accessible range of recreational opportunities for all ages, abilities and backgrounds and Council is committed to maintaining these valuable community assets.
“Whether it’s refurbishing sporting fields or courts, installing new irrigating systems, or touching up the clubhouse or community hall, this investment is designed to ensure Brisbane residents have access to a wide range of well-maintained and well-functioning facilities and venues.”
The Westside venue to benefit is:
• Dunmore Park Soccer in Auchenflower - $70,000 for works including installing a stormwater collection system, new water tanks, new irrigation pump and control panel.

Local Councillor Peter Matic said the funding ensured local organisations could operate at their best, and encourage more people to get involved in the local community.

“Dunmore Park is an integral sporting facility in our local community enjoyed by active residents of all ages,” Cr Matic said.
“Council regularly works with organisations and not-for-profit groups to determine works that are required to ensure facilities meet the needs of our growing, changing communities.

“I encourage all residents to check out what our local community venues have to offer.”
