Brisbane to decide the city’s next big hit

01 May, 2015

Brisbane’s newest emerging musicians will be decided by the public, with voting now open for Council’s QUBE Effect People’s Choice Award.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said 23 local bands and musicians were shortlisted for the People’s Choice Award, following Council’s new QUBE Effect event held during National Youth Week.

“With help from BMag and 4ZZZ, Council launched The QUBE Effect earlier this month, which is a battle of the band-style event for young musicians,” Cr Quirk said.

“The program is an innovative way to celebrate our talented young people, and boost career opportunities for budding performers.

“Bands performed live at two locations, and were then required to record their piece for online voting in a cube-shaped stage.

“The public will decide the winners of the People’s Choice Award, Best New Talent, and Best Original Song, with a top cash prize of $4000 and the chance to play at some of the city’s biggest events up for grabs.

Voting for The QUBE Effect People’s Choice is open from 1 to 22 May, with each voter going in the draw to win a $100 Black Milk Clothing voucher.

“Voting is a great way to show your support for our city’s emerging musical talent, and will help their careers to flourish here in Brisbane,” Cr Quirk said.

“I encourage residents to visit Council’s Facebook page and cast their vote and support our city’s young and emerging artists.”

Voting for The QUBE Effect People’s Choice is open from 1 to 22 May.
