26 March, 2015

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk says Brisbane’s youthful energy and vibrancy has led it to be named as one of Australia’s top destinations amongst travellers.

Popular online review site TripAdvisor named Brisbane as the third best destination in Australia in its list of Travellers’ Choice Destinations.

“We have a lot to be proud of; Brisbane truly is one of the few cities in the world that has everything,” Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said.

“We have a youthful and contagious personality that embraces visitors with our vibrant, relaxed urban outdoor lifestyle.

“We have a thriving cultural and events scene with exclusive shows, major sporting events and important international exhibits.

“We have amazing natural attributes, diverse shopping, a thriving culinary scene, vibrant nightlife, unique precincts and unexpected surprises around every corner.

“Brisbane is also constantly evolving with exciting new hotels, venues and experiences that make a visit to our city truly memorable.

“We are also one of the most welcoming cities in the world, known for our hospitality and our friendly locals who are ready to offer visitors are warm welcome.”

The TripAdvisor accolade follows recent praise of Brisbane in local and international media outlets such as CNNGo, the UK Guardian, Fairfax Traveller and Rough Guides, which named Brisbane as the world’s eighth most beautiful city in a reader poll.

In its listing of Brisbane, TripAdvisor said Brisbane was the hub of Queensland culture, offering a peek at the past and a glimpse into the future.

“Visit the historic Windmill and Old Commissariat Store, built by convicts in 1828, or fast-forward to the present (and beyond) with a trip to the Gallery of Modern Art,” the site said.

“Mingle with locals atop Mount Coot-tha, cruise the Brisbane River to South Bank’s sandy beach on the City Cat and make sure to fill the cuteness quota at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, home to koalas and kangaroos.”
