Have your say on Queen St Mall future

26 March, 2015

Brisbane residents are invited to have their say on the future of Australia’s most successful mall with public consultation sessions beginning this week.

Cr Simmonds said Brisbane residents were encouraged to have their say about the Queen Street Mall and their vision of the future of the mall.

“The Queen Street Mall is one of the most successful and iconic retail boulevards in Australia which today accommodates 26 million visitors and more than 1,000 retailers,” he said.

“The Mall is a world class venue for both business and visitors, but we need to make sure it can offer the best possible experience in the future.

“This process is about preserving the success of the mall and capitalising on emerging opportunities. It is also about listening and incorporating feedback.

“We’re going into this process with an open mind, all ideas will be welcome and it will be critical to bring together everyone.”

Cr Simmonds said the sessions were about ensuring the mall remained a vibrant active space for years to come.

“Already the Mall hosts 1,000 events each year, the Queen St Mall delivers significant economic and social value to Brisbane,” Cr Simmonds said.

“We’ve already increased pedestrian space in the Mall over recent months and it’s vital that we work with residents and businesses to make further improvements.

“I encourage residents to come along to these sessions and have a say about the future of Queen St Mall.”

Public consultation sessions on the vision for the Queen Street Mall will be held at the Queen Street Mall stage on:
• Friday 27 March, from 5pm-8pm
• Monday 30 March, from 11am-2pm
• Wednesday 8 April, from 2pm-5pm
• Saturday 11 April, from 9am-12pm.

The workshops follow the Valley Malls Visioning project in 2012, which resulted in the revitalisation of Brunswick Street Mall and significant investment in the local area.
