Snap and submit to the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk is encouraging Brisbane photographers to get snappy around Brisbane with a chance to win big with entries now open in the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards.

Cr Quirk said $13,000 in prize money was up for grabs in the popular awards which are now in their ninth year.

The Lord Mayor said the awards now in their ninth year, were free to enter with a total of $13,000 in prize money up for grabs.

“These photographic awards are a celebration of Brisbane’s creative talent with great opportunities for local and emerging photographers to submit an image that reflects Brisbane’s creative lifestyle,” Cr Quirk said.

“We want Brisbane to be known as a vibrant and creative city and the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards are a perfect opportunity for photographers of any age and level of experience to showcase their talents.

“We are looking for photos that make an original and creative statement about Brisbane and our culture while capturing anything from elements of daily life and the natural and constructed environments to our diverse and multicultural communities.

“Last year we had 360 photos submitted and 2,600 votes cast and I expect even more this year.

“I look forward to seeing how our photographers interpret and express the diverse aspects of Brisbane and its lifestyle.”

Prizes on offer are in three categories, with the winner of the Open Category receiving $10,000, the winner of the Tertiary category receiving $2,000 and The People’s Choice Award winner receiving $1,000.

Residents who vote on the winning People’s Choice Award image will go into the running to win a framed print of the image.

These awards are open to Brisbane residents with a passion for photography with professional and emerging photographers strongly encouraged to enter.

Entries for the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards can be submitted at www.lmpa.brisbane.qld.gov.au until Monday 16 March 2015.
