Iconic Jimmy’s on the Mall re-opens in Brisbane CBD

BRISBANE’S iconic Jimmy’s on the Mall is set to open its doors after a major renovation in the middle of Queen Street Mall.
On Wednesday 5 November, 2014, Lord Mayor Graham Quirk and Mantle Group’s director Godfrey Mantle will officially open the new venue, which now sits over two storeys in the middle of the Mall.
Jimmy’s on the Mall originally opened 32 years ago and was the first restaurant to open when the Queen Street Mall was first established. Over the years Jimmy’s on the Mall has become known as Brisbane’s longest established outdoor restaurant that remains open 24 hours, seven days a week.
Jimmy’s on the Mall has a huge multi-generational following from locals and interstate and international visitors.
Owners and operators Mantle Group began redeveloping the venue in April this year. The redevelopment project saw the consolidation of two of Mantle Group’s mall venues – the former Jimmy’s on the Mall and Café East – to make room for the new architecturally designed venue. The original Jimmy’s on the Mall site became the location for the new Jimmy’s on the Mall.
The new Jimmy’s on the Mall is spread over two split levels and includes vibrant green living walls, a clever retractable roof to ensure the venue is ideal for all climates and high quality finishes and surfaces throughout the restaurant and bar.
Mr Mantle said the update to the iconic restaurant and bar will see the new venue become known as a leading outdoor venue in one of Australia’s busiest pedestrian malls.
“We are confident that our designs for the new venue will provide Brisbane with a stunning world class icon,” he said.
“We also believe that the new venue will really put Brisbane on the world map for leading outdoor casual dining and bar.
“The new Jimmy’s on the Mall provides customers and tourists with a new diverse menu and great outdoor dining options, which boasts great view lines up and down the pedestrian Mall.”
The new Jimmy’s on the Mall will continue to remain open 24 hours, 7 days a week providing a continuous active presence in the Mall at all times of the day and night.
“I want to also thank the wonderful team of local contractors we had working on this project who worked around the clock to ensure this venue was finished and open well before G20,” Mr Mantle said.
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the Jimmy’s on the Mall upgrade went a long way in revitalising the Queen Street Mall, consolidating two businesses to return space to pedestrians, to ensure it remains Australia’s most successful shopping mall.
“Our Mall is world-class. It is the most successful and iconic retail boulevards in Australia which today accommodates 26 million visitors and more than 1,000 retailers,” Cr Quirk said.
“It offers everything from boutique offerings to international labels such as Forever 21, Chanel, Tiffany and Co and Louis Vuitton.
“Council constantly reviews the Mall to ensure it maintains its role as a functional and progressive urban space which is one of the key reasons this revitalisation has taken place, and is complete in time for G20.”
