Join the City’s highest achievers to celebrate ‘Team Brisbane’

18 August, 2014

Keith Urban, Darren Lockyer, Li Cunxin, Matthew Hayden, Professor Ian Frazer and local band Sheppard are among the famous faces of a new initiative announced today, to help drive business confidence and community pride in Brisbane.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the new ‘Team Brisbane’ campaign would provide a strong platform to capitalise on the city’s imminent international exposure coming from the G20, Asia Cup soccer, Asia Pacific Screen Awards, Global Café, cricket’s World Cup and Test matches.

“It’s important for all of us in Brisbane to understand what we’re achieving as individuals and collectively as a city, what we’re offering the world and what we aspire to be as an emerging global city.

“Whether the achievements are the result of high-profile identities, our unsung heroes or our everyday heroes, the Team Brisbane spirit is about the fact that all residents have a role to play in our city’s future.”

“There is a strong link between confidence and economic activity,” he said.

“We hope that by reminding people how well the Brisbane ‘team’ is performing it will boost further business success and create more jobs for now and future generations.

“When you put our world-class achievers into a single campaign it provides a powerful reminder of how far we have come as a city.”

Everyone featured in the Team Brisbane campaign emphasises they would not have achieved success without a supportive local team behind them.

“From Keith Urban, who started out in Brisbane, to Professor Ian Frazer, whose team created the world’s first cancer vaccine, our city is teeming with incredible success stories,” he said.

“Team Brisbane is not just about feeling good about our city and its achievements - it is about injecting confidence into our economy and driving investment, spending and self-belief.

“Local residents and businesses being part of Team Brisbane is critical to our continued transformation into an emerging new world city.”

Cr Quirk said as a city, Brisbane had a powerful international story to tell with its friendliness, lifestyle, accessibility, inclusiveness and investment opportunities.

“The Team Brisbane initiative includes a series of events and activities across the city, an advertising campaign presented in partnership with local media outlets and social media engagement,” he said.

“Everyone can be part of Team Brisbane conversations and events using hashtags #teambne or #brisbaneanyday or by visiting teambne.com.au.
