‘Connect with Council’ pod makes Council more accessible

In an Australian first, Brisbane City Council is delivering on its vision for a digital Brisbane through the trial of a ‘Connect with Council’ pod at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre.

Chairman of Finance, Economic Development and Administration Councillor Julian Simmonds said the pod had been in operation from December 23 and the trial would last for four months.

“This pod enables residents and business owners to have remote access to Council through highly secure and high definition video and voice communications,” he said.

“The pod is essentially a portable room with a computer screen and printer which allows customers to hold a teleconference with Council contact centre staff.

“This is a great opportunity for Council to provide leadership in technology uptake while continuing to provide multiple methods of engagement with our customers.”

Cr Simmonds said the pod was a new and alternative way for customers to connect with Council in an easily accessible and convenient location.

“Customers can utilise this pod to access a range of Council services including paying rates, requesting Council publications or brochures, reporting a problem or maintenance issue, updating their contact details or accessing information and advice on services,” he said.

“Once the trial is complete, Council will evaluate the results of the trial to determine the next steps.

“Council remains committed to providing a high level of customer service to residents which is why this trial of customer service pods is so important.”

The pod trial is being delivered with technology and services from Cisco Australia and supported by Indooroopilly Shopping Centre.
