Lord Mayor delivers new waterslides in time for holidays

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk is encouraging residents to slide into the holidays with two new swimming pool waterslides to be unveiled soon in Brisbane’s north and South.
The Lord Mayor said he would officially open a 30-metre waterslide with a double loop at Newmarket swimming pool on Saturday, 30 November and a 30-metre waterslide with a single loop at Hibiscus Sports Complex in Upper Mt Gravatt on Sunday, 8 December.
Cr Quirk said there are 20 Council swimming pools across Brisbane offering opportunities for fun, fitness and recreation.
“Last year our 20 Council pools had over two million visitors and we have worked to make them even more attractive destinations this season,” Cr Quirk said.

“Over the warmer months, I would encourage residents to visit one of Council’s pools to cool off, relax, learn to swim, practice stroke development, attend a class, join a swimming club or swim laps.
“Many pools have disabled access and facilities include slides, play equipment, barbecues and kiosks. All pools have change rooms with hot and cold showers.”
Cr Quirk said the top five most popular pools in the 2012/13 financial year, were:
• Yeronga Park Pool – more than 202,000 visitors
• Newmarket Pool – more than 192,000 visitors
• Colmslie Pool – more than 172,000 visitors
• Chermside Pool – more than 138,000 visitors
• Langlands Park Memorial Pool – more than 128,000 visitors
Cr Quirk said the new waterslides would be great attractions for the school holidays, making Council’s pools even more popular.
The Hibiscus Sports Complex waterslide is 4 metres high, 30 metres in length and features a single loop, and the one at Newmarket swimming pool is around 5.5 metres high, 30 metres in length and features a double loop.
