Bikeways link Toowong and Indooroopilly

Brisbane cyclists have been invited to have their say on the preferred alignments for the Toowong to Indooroopilly Commuter Bikeway Corridor.

The alignments will be available for viewing at a public information session on Thursday, 5 September.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said a project had been undertaken to establish a continuous route for people to cycle between the two suburbs as there were currently no dedicated cycle facilities connecting Toowong and Indooroopilly.

“Earlier this year we commenced a study in consultation with cyclists and the local community to seek feedback on the routes they presently use when travelling between these suburbs,” Cr Quirk said.

“The steep topography of the area was identified as a constraint but despite this challenge, a number of alignments have been identified.

“The alignments will make use of some existing on-road facilities and incorporate way-finding signage and other minor improvements to provide a more complete route between Toowong and Indooroopilly.

“The existing River Loop around the University of Queensland still remains a great route for all levels of cycling ability.”

Cr Quirk said the public information session would enable the wider community to find out more information about the proposed alignments and provide feedback on their preferred options.

The session will be held on Thursday, 5 September, from 4.30pm to 6.30pm at the Toowong Community Meeting Place in Josling Street.

“Residents will also be able to view the alignments online and email their feedback to the project team,” he said.

“Following this process, we will then begin work on the concept design which should be completed in October.”

Cr Quirk said the Toowong to Indooroopilly Commuter Bikeway Corridor was part of his commitment to provide $120 million in new bikeway infrastructure over four years, as part of the Better Bikeways 4 Brisbane program.
