Community Consultation - Draft New City Plan

04 June, 2013

Factsheet 2. Community consultation

Brisbane City Council is working with residents to decide how and where Brisbane will grow. Our draft new City Plan is the next step on from the comprehensive neighbourhood planning and CityShape consultation process that Brisbane residents have undertaken since 2006. The draft new City Plan will help Council plan for the infrastructure needed to support this growth and create a more diverse economy, while continuing to protect our city’s enviable way of life.

The Queensland Government has now reviewed the draft new City Plan and provided Council with approval to proceed to the statutory public notification stage. Now is the time to have your say on the draft new City Plan and make a formal submission. The statutory notification period will last for 60 business days, well above the 30 business days required by legislation.

Council will acknowledge your submission in writing. Once the statutory public notification period is complete and all submissions have been considered you will receive notification about how your submission was considered and the outcome.

More than 30 community events have already been held across Brisbane since February this year to allow the community to become familiar with the draft new City Plan. Further events, including ‘Talk to a Planner’ sessions will continue until 30 July and are as outlined in the following pages of this factsheet.
