Brisbane's Spotless Suburb Competition 2013

30 November, 2012

A Media Release/COMMUNITY MESSAGE from Councillor Peter Matic

BRISBANE’S SPOTLESS SUBURB Competition – an opportunity for you to enter.

Here is an opportunity for you and your friends to help keep our local environment clean and litter-free.

“As your local councillor I invite you to nominate a suburb, park, precinct or school in your area and enter the 2013 Brisbane Spotless Suburbs and Schools competition which the Council is proudly running in partnership with Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland”.

The aim of the competition, which has been running for four years, is to encourage a cleaner, litter-free, and beautiful Brisbane. The competition engages clubs, communities, schools and commercial enterprises in all of the 26 Brisbane Wards to highlight their best projects to make their most spotless suburb or school.

Winners are decided after comprehensive and expert judging by KABQ. There are six categories and an overall winner for “Brisbane’s Spotless Suburb and School” award.

As the elected councillor for Toowong Ward, I would like your guidance and feedback on areas that need attention, and hotspot areas that need a “clean up”. You can become involved with friends and family and show a caring attitude about your suburb or community.

If you would like to organise a volunteer group and clean-up – by Adopting a Road, or park, or creek – go onto the Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland website and join up. They will assist you in how to go about conducting a clean up and provide all the necessary clean up kits, with vests and signs.

CEO, Rick Burnett said “with your support we hope this will increase the spirit of pride in each suburb, spur action regarding litter and result in a more beautiful Brisbane. Ultimately this will highlight your community and you will be acknowledged at a presentation hosted by the Lord Mayor and KABQ. You can view all the information and photos on this competition on our website at www.kabq.org.au

The competition starts February, 2013 and closes June, 2013.
The Brisbane Spotless Awards hosted by the Lord Mayor will be announced in August, 2013.

Councillor Matic said: “I am certainly looking forward to working with my local community and KABQ in keeping Toowong Ward beautiful.”
