Council ex-library books a bargain

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk is encouraging residents to support a good cause by picking up an ex Brisbane City Council library book at a bargain price.

The Lord Mayor said that books from Council’s 33 Libraries would be on sale for up to 50 per cent off at Cystic Fibrosis Queensland’s Nundah and Salisbury shops from Saturday, 1 December to Wednesday, 5 December.

“This great initiative gives these books a second life, with proceeds from the sales going directly to Cystic Fibrosis Queensland and the Lord Mayor’s Community Trust,” Cr Quirk said.

“At this costly time of year, this is a great way to pick up some fantastic bargains while supporting a good cause at the same time.

“The money raised goes toward life-enhancing services for people in our community affected by cystic fibrosis, while the Lord Mayor’s Trust income is invested to benefit the broader community and other charitable work.”

The Lord Mayor’s Community Trust has a Memorandum of Understanding with CFQ bookshops, through which all Council’s discarded library books are donated for sale and the funds raised are split.

There is plenty to choose from with new stock going into the CFQ shops every day and payment can be made by credit card, cash or eftpos.

There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis. The degenerative chronic illness is the most common life-threatening genetic condition in Australia.

For more information about the book sale or any of Council’s Libraries services, phone Council on 3403 8888.
