Free disposal of green waste and storm damaged waste

19 November, 2012

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has announced Council’s four transfer stations will receive green waste and storm-damaged materials from today in response to the weekend’s storms.

The Lord Mayor said Council had initially planned a free green waste service for the coming weekend but starting the free service today would assist with the clean-up in storm damaged areas.

“Residents with storm-damaged materials and green waste such as tree limbs will be able to dispose of these at Council’s transfer stations at no cost from now until Sunday evening,” he said.

“This will provide assistance to people cleaning up after the devastating weekend storms.

“People transporting waste to the transfer stations should take care and avoid travelling when storms are forecast as is currently the case for Thursday.”

Cr Quirk encouraged all homeowners and residents to take advantage of the free disposal to clear their homes and yards of green hazards during the next week.

“With free green waste disposal for the next week, there has never been a better time to trim overhanging tree branches clear of your home, rake up bark, twigs and dried leaves from around your house and garden and clear gutters and drainpipes of leaf litter,” he said.

Council’s transfer stations are open this weekend from 6.30am to 5.45pm and are located at:
• 1560 Nudgee Road, Nudgee
• 360 Sherbrooke Road, Willawong
• 101 Upper Kedron Road, Ferny Grove
• 728 Tilley Road, Chandler (opposite the Sleeman Sports Complex)
