Brisbane Square Library hosts author Peter FitzSimons

The Lord Mayor’s Writers in Residence program will host one of Australia's most successful authors, Peter FitzSimons, when he talks about his new book Eureka: The Unfinished Revolution on Saturday, 3 November.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk will attend the event, with the program part of his commitment to bring high-profile authors to Brisbane.

“As part of that election promise, I committed $100,000 to hosting author events and workshops in libraries to encourage reading and writing within our community,” he said.

“Over the past four years my team has delivered more than $11 million worth of new libraries and upgrades, and our Writers in Residence program is about ensuring ratepayers get the most out of this investment while also meeting some of their favourite authors.

“This series is about engaging audiences of all ages, with diverse reading interests in different genres.

“By providing more avenues for Brisbane readers and writers to be entertained and inspired by the creative writing process, we are helping create a cultural presence deserved of Australia’s new world city.”

Peter FitzSimons’ latest book Eureka: The Unfinished Revolution looks at the deadly 1854 battle at the Eureka Stockade. The story gets into the hearts and minds of those on the battlefield and those behind the scenes, bringing to life Australian legends on both sides of the rebellion.

Peter FitzSimons is a former national representative rugby union player, a newspaper journalist, the author of more than 20 books, and Australia’s biggest-selling non-fiction author of the last ten years.

Join Peter at this Saturday afternoon event as he discusses his research and discoveries about this significant moment in Australian history.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk will also be attending the day and welcoming Peter FitzSimons to the Writers in Residence program.
