The Australian Garden History Society - Survey of Heritage Gardens in Queensland

01 November, 2012

The Australian Garden History Society needs input to develop a list of Queensland’s gardens, places and landscapes
with heritage significance. We are searching for old gardens, landscapes and plantings of all types – public parks and
reserves; public plazas; botanic gardens; memorial landscapes such as cemeteries and war memorials; avenues and
groups of trees; urban residential gardens of all types; homestead and rural gardens; institutional, industrial and
commercial gardens such as gardens associated with railway stations, civic buildings, showgrounds, racetracks,
hospitals and schools as well as spiritual places.
The common elements will be that the sites are more than 30 years old and have some form of significance. In some
cases, there may be little remaining evidence of gardens at places such as historic mine sites, old market gardens,
industrial sites or old homesteads. There may simply be remnants – a specimen tree, an arbour, vine trellis or bush
house, stone walls or paths - or there may only be a photograph or a story of a former garden. We are interested in all
these things!
If you would like to recommend a place for consideration, please complete this form (with as much detail as possible)
and email to susanh@rara.net.au or post to the Heritage Gardens Survey Team c/o Riddel Architecture PO Box 1267
Fortitude Valley Q 4006. If you have any queries or require further information, please visit
www.gardenhistorysociety.org.au. Many thanks for your assistance.
