Footpath upgrade for Toowong

21 February, 2012

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk is delivering another key suburban infrastructure upgrade in a bid to make Brisbane’s footpaths safer and more accessible.

Local Councillor Peter Matic (Toowong) said Council is set to upgrade a footpath along Bywong St at Toowong.

The $20,000 project is part of a record $35 million Council is spending on footpaths across the city this year.

“This project is another part of my commitment to making Brisbane an open and accessible city, delivering vital infrastructure for our suburbs and providing attractive alternatives for active travel,” Cr Matic said.

“In the last three years we have more than doubled our spending on footpath maintenance to $26 million and I think it’s clearly made a difference in making Brisbane’s footpaths safer.

“I also expect Brisbane residents will begin to notice more and more new footpaths around the city with this administration’s ramp up of spending to $9 million a year in this area.”

Cr Matic said Council had also allocated $2 million in the 2011/12 Budget in support of Council’s 12 flying gangs, enabling them to get on with the job of fixing cracked footpaths quickly.

The project will commence in early March 2012 and is due for completion in late March 2012, weather permitting.
