De-stress and refresh with Tai Chi in Council Parks

Local Councillor Peter Matic (Toowong Ward) is inviting residents to try out the final Tai Chi classes of the year in their local park and de-stress ahead of the Christmas rush.

Cr Matic said there was only one more Monday morning class in Perrin Park, Toowong left this year.

“Lord Mayor Graham Quirk and his team are committed to making sure Brisbane is an accessible and inclusive city which is why we are providing a range of activities to keep our residents active and healthy,” he said.

“Tai Chi and Qigong are the perfect morning activities to activate the mind and body and provide an overall sense of general wellbeing.

“These classes will leave all participants feeling refreshed and relaxed – just what we all need this time of year.”

Tai Chi and Qigong classes are held in Perrin Park each Monday from 6:30 – 7:30am and cost $5. Sessions will recommence in January 2012.

“There’s no better way to kick start the week than with some ‘moving meditation’ in one of our great local parks,” Cr Matic said.

All classes are run by instructors from the Australian Academy of Tai Chi and Qigong.

The ancient art of Tai-Chi is based around a series of easy-to-follow traditional movements that can help improve balance, suppleness and mental alertness.

Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing and flat shoes to classes.

No bookings are required. For further information visit www.brisbane.qld.gov.au or call Council on 3403 8888.
