Report storm-affected roads and drains to Council

15 December, 2010

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman is encouraging Brisbane residents to let Council know about any issues like potholes and blocked drains that need to be fixed after the weekends torrential rain.

The Lord Mayor said over 100 millimetres of rain fell in just a few hours on Saturday afternoon alone.

Cr Newman said such an intense rainfall over a short period time meant issues were more likely to arise than if the water had fallen more steadily and Council needed to know so it could fix them before another storm hit.

Our crews are out there right now attending to jobs across the city after the weekend downpour and we need Brisbane residents to be our eyes in the suburbs and let us know of any other issues so we can get them fixed straight away, Cr Newman said.

With more storms forecast this summer its crucial we get in and fix these issues now before the next big one hits and turns something small into a big problem.

Residents can call Council on 3403 8888 if they see things like pot holes, blocked drains, popped manhole covers or even garden materials that have been dislodged by the rain and could cause a problem if not secured."
